Sylvia Mercado Kierkegaard is a leading international authority in computer law. Her articles are widely published[1] in top international journals and books. Professor Kierkegaard covers a wide range of topics, such as comparative contract law, alternative dispute resolution, intellectual property rights, EU law, privacy, electronic commerce and data protection. Her work is frequently cited in court judgements, and scholarly works. She has authored, edited and published books[2] and over 2000 articles and her articles frequently appear in CLSR.[3] She is also the President of the International Association of IT Lawyers (IAITL), an association of IT lawyers and legal scholars specializing in computer law, privacy and security. The association organises some of the most successful international legal conferences in the world bringing in scholars, policy officials and members of both the industry and academic community to craft new policies and disseminate scholarly researches.[4][5][6] She has the distinction of finishing with the highest grade ever in the history of Danish education.[7]

Sylvia Kierkegaard is Professor at the Communications University of China, Professor-Research Fellow at ILaws (UK), Visiting Professor at University of Southampton (UK), visiting professor at Xían Jiatong University among others. She is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of four of the world's most prestigious legal conference series: the Legal, Security and Privacy Issues in IT Law (www.lspi.net), International Private Law Conference, International Public Law Conference and the International Trade Law and Conference which are organised yearly in cooperation with leading law firms, law schools and Elsevier in various countries.

She is a frequent speaker, invited expert and panellist of various international workshops organised by international institutions, televisions and government bodies.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]

She is the editor in chief of Journal of International Commercial Law and Technology (DOAJ Access), editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Private Law (Inderscience), editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Public Law and Policy (IJPLAP),[21] Associate editor of the International Journal of Intercultural Information Management,[22] Managing Editor of the Journal of Legal Technology Risk and Management,[23] the International Journal of Innovation in Digital Economy and.[24]

She is a member of the editorial board of over 20 international academic journals such as Computer Law and Security Report (Oxford-Elsevier).[25] She has served as expert adviser,[26][27][28] speaker[29][30] and member of various Study Groups and Committees for the EU and the Council of Europe,[31] which draft policies and proposals for legislative and regulatory policies on international level,[32][33][34] as well as international associations.[35][36][37]

She is the chairwoman and principal researcher of the co-Reach IPR in New Media project <http://www.coreach-ipr.org> which is conducting a major comparative study of copyright law funded by the governments of China, UK, Netherlands , Austria and Germany. She is also a Fellow at the African Center for Cyberlaw and Cybercrime Prevention (The African Center for Cyberlaw and Cybercrime Prevention <http://www.cybercrime-fr.org/index.pl/fellows2> and a member of the Policy and Scientific Committee of the European Privacy Association <http://www.europeanprivacyassociation.eu/2009/people_scientific.asp>. She is an advisor to numerous organisations and government bodies.
